Sounding diplomatic: not + very
We often avoid ‚negative‘ adjectives in order to sound polite and diplomatic. Instead we use not + very + a ‚positive‘ adjective.
For instance, rather than say a decision was bad, we might say it wasn’t very good. That way, we sound less direct and more diplomatic.
Exercise instructions
Fill in the gaps to make each sentence sound polite and diplomatic. Use one word unless otherwise stated.
